Mission:
Investigate the Chintoka Shipyard Buildup
Location: USS Blackeagle, Bridge/Captains Ready Room
Timeline: Current.
It had been a long and tiring journey to get there, but Finchley finally arrived on the USS Blackeagle. Ordinarily, he wouldn't have taken the assignment he had been approached with, but when he heard who it had come from, he waved that thought and made his way to the ship. Coming onboard, he'd encountered a young Lieutenant who questioned the validity of his orders, but when Finchley explained who he was, showed him 'part' of the message that he'd received and mentioned that he could have the Lieutenant transferred to the Outer Rim to deep mine Boralite for the rest of his life, he'd relented and allowed Finchley to go on his way.
Now standing on the bridge, he looked across at the Ready Room and smiled. This was going to be an interesting meeting, after all, his new CO was someone he was 'quite' familiar with. Walking across the bridge, he stopped and stood beside the room access panel. Opening it up, he then fetched a small tool from his pack and placed it inside the panel. Two crossed wires and an updated keycode later, the doors to the Ready Room opened and he leant up against the door frame.
He looked into the room, he smiled and said "You know Sir, someone really ought to fix that panel, anyone could just open it and pick the lock..."
"Only Finchley would do that," Yadira said turning around. "And yes I did request you as well. I need you here. This mission is a strange one too. What have you heard regarding this Chinkoka mess?" she said looking at her dearest friend. Damn he looked good and just as handsome as he did back then. She wondered if he still had feelings for her still.
Finchley smiled at Yadira and said "Well, old habits die hard...Captain" he said, walking into the room. Venturing round the desk, he held his arms open, saying "My God Yadira, you look as sexy as ever, and the heels compliment your long legs" he said, nodding down at her boots.
"You have not changed either. You got more handsome than I remember," Yadira said wrapping her arms around him. It felt good to have return the hug.
"As for the Chintoka situation, you know as well as I do that it was a shipyard for the Dominion. However, when the war ended, Starfleet were going to use it as a deep space launch for their exploration vessels but the bean counters got involved and it was shelved. Rumour has it that the Dominion are looking to reform and rebuild and Chintoka is their priority" he said "How am I doing so far?"
"So far you are doing great. Scuttlebut has it that the ships they sent ahead were destroyed or they were captured," Yadira said.
"Yes, I heard they sent them, and that was their first mistake" Finchley replied "You don't send three ships, you send a fast, highly manoeuvrable, scout ship...in and out. Once you ascertain what the footage shows, then you decide whether or not to send in more ships. The second mistake was not sending me. We were at Chintoka when it was taken, we know the yard, we know the system, why not send experienced people in there first?"
He sighed, then looked at Yadira again "Soooooo...Captain now is it, I'll need to get used to you bossing me around. Oh, don't get me wrong, you did it when we were together before, but that was...you know...our thing, this is different, this is whilst on duty. If I disobey any orders, will I get 'punished' by you?" he asked, laughing and raising his eyebrows a couple of times.
Yadira was about to laugh, "Um...Yes you would and it would not be pretty either. I have to be impartial in being a captain and on the job. Off duty, the punishment would be....of course a different version, "she chuckled.
Kissing him again, but be with a bit more passion, she allowed a small portion of her feelings to surface.
"Ooooooh, I like the sound of that, remind me to disobey orders more often!" he laughed "but seriously, why don't we offer to go in ourselves. A high speed pass, get what we need, in and out before they know we were there. We have a cloak, well, when it works anyway, we'd be the perfect choice?"
Thinking about what he just said as opposed to going in as is without the cloak. "Get what we need? What we need to do is end the Dominion's ability to rebuild and use it for a base. We are to destroy and retake the yard by any means possible. Those were my 'Eyes only' message from the brass. Now I agree we need to use the cloak but engineering has to make sure the cloak is operational and the fighter squadrons are prepared. So we need a sound strategy to get it done without too much damage to the ship yard," Yadira said.
"The set up can be fairly easily done" Finchley replied "coming in from the smaller moon orbiting the nearby planet to mask our approach, This gives Engineering more than enough time to check the cloak's one hundred percent in working order. Once we're cloaked, we can approach the ship yard at high velocity and take them by surprise. We will have to de-cloak to fire, but by the time they realise we're there, we'll be on top of them and that gives us the advantage. To be honest, I can't see the Dominion having many ships defending the yard, they lost a lot of vessels in the war, same as we did, but I doubt they have the resources or materials to rebuild at the rate we do. At a guess, I'd say maybe two heavy cruisers, a couple of freighters and some small fighters at most. They'll also be concentrating on rebuilding the yard, and I believe that's where their focus will be, not on another Federation attack so soon. That in itself gives us an advantage, their ships will be thinly spread, making our attack strategy easier."
At that point there was a message out through from Communications that there was an urgent Priority Once message for the Captain.
"Do you want me to wait, or would you like privacy Sir?" Finchley asked Yadira.
Yadira looked at the computer, " Go Finchley we can finish this later,"Yadira said, as she went to read it. As she started to read, her heart sank and her face paled.
Yadira was losing her ship to and being sent to Earth.
