Location: Romulus, Federation Presidential quarters

Finchley looked at Alec, "Well, I have to say, that went much better than I expected it would..."
Alec nodded in agreement. "Can't argue that sir or the results. Thank you so much for your help. I am sorry I took you away from Ms. Turpin. I'll get the doctor back to the Presidential party, straight away."
“Yes, you do that, and once you have, find out what it is that the Doctor was saying to the Romulans, impress on her that she has to tell you…and tell you the truth, if she doesn’t, she’ll have me to deal with and I don’t stop at just asking” Finchley replied.
"I'll take her aside to speak with her sir. I don't want to create a scene and get the Presidential guards involved in this." Alec replied.
"As you see fit Commander" Finchley replied, "now, if you'll excuse me, I better go back and see Ms Turpin, find out what she's got to do with all of this."
"Yes, sir and thank you for the assist, sir." Alec replied.
Shon moaned and put a hand to her head, she withdrew it to find it stained with blood. “What hit me?” She asked.
Alec was kneeling beside her, "A Romulan blaster Doctor. Here, let me help you up." He said offering her his hand. "We need to talk." He added. Have you got something to clean your forehead. We don't want to alarm the others."
“Ooh”, Shon moaned, “call me Shon, please. She took a wipe from a slip contained in the pocket of her doctor’s coat and wiped her forehead. “Remind me not to try that trick again, where did everyone go?” She asked.
"Well Doc er I mean Shon. Captain Kerr convinced the Romulans to withdraw, and this incident wouldn't be mentioned and he returned to question Ms. Turpin. I'm to take you back to the President and stay with you." Alec replied.
“You will get no argument from me Commander,” she said as he helped her up. “I feel I’ve aged at least ten years in the last few minutes. I’m very sorry for all that. I had to get away from Finch…..I mean the Captain, or the Commodore.”
Alec caught her use of the captain's first name but didn't mention it. "Good Shon. I don't want us to argue. Do you feel up to returning to the President or do you need a few more minutes?"
She nodded, yes I am feeling better thank you. If I can just make use of your arm for a few minutes we can go now. At least there is no sign of the two Romulans that were following me.”
"Of course you can. My arm is at your disposal Shon." Alec said with a smile. "Um I need to talk to you about that, but it can wait until we're back with the President."
Taking their time they walked slowly through the corridors noting an increased presence of Romulan guards. "They have increased their security I see," she said. Entering the ante room Shon closed the door and sat down. the President was inside resting and she determined to check on him as soon as Alec had asked his questions, she already knew what they were going to be.
"Yes." Alec replied, "I've noticed the increase as well. Something is up." Entering the ante room, Shon closed the door to give them some privacy. "Doctor, Shon," He corrected. "What were you talking to the Romulans about? I must impress upon you to tell the truth for all our sakes."
"Alec I am no traitor. I believe in the Federation and to what it stands for. I am here to watch the President. I did not think I would meet Finch....I mean Commodore Kerr again, we used to know each other.....very well. It was a shock to see him again. I can speak Romulan and I told them I needed to get away as he was....planning to abduct me for his own pleasure. I HAD to say something and that is what I came up with. Stupid I know. I thought they would give me a chance to disappear, to regroup my thoughts. Obviously they did not believe me, or, if they did they saw their chance to abduct and question me. That is the truth of it." or as much as I can tell you, she thought.
"It never entered my mind that you were a traitor, Shon. It is clear you know the captain by the use of his first name. As for your conversation with the Romulans. Yes, it was stupid. Extremely stupid. I think the Romulans saw a chance to question you, and they took it." He paused for a moment looking at her. "I think you are holding back Shon. I don't think I am getting the whole story. Oh, I believe you about the Romulans but there is more too the story. Anyway, I'm to stay with you and you are to stay here until the captain comes back."
Shon nodded, "I must check on the President and let him know Ms Turpin will not be returning. Is that okay?" she asked.
Alec nodded, "Yes, it is okay. I'll go with you while you speak to him. If he has any questions, I can answer them at the same time."
"Thank you" Shon said as the entered the space that had been designated for the President to rest. President Hallmyre was leaning back in a chair his eyes closed. Shon move to him as he opened his eyes. "Mr President?" she asked as she opened her medical tricorder. "how are you feeling?"
Hallmyre looked tired. "Ah doctor, i would be feeling better if Ms Turpin was here," he looked passed Shon in the hope that Martha was there.
Mr President there is some bad news about Ms Turpin I am afraid she has been arrested" she motioned to Alec. "Mr President this is Lieutenant Commander Alec Hunter he can tell you more."
Alec stepped forward. "Mr. President." He said respectfully. "I'm from the Blackeagle and I'm afraid that is true. Ms. Turpin has been arrested as a spy. Captain Kerr is questioning her further on this matter." He finished.
Hallmyre patted his forehead with his handkerchief. “A spy, who for? I don’t understand”
"Yes sir, a spy. We're not sure for who has of yet but she is a spy, and she may have put your visit in jeopardy sir." Alec answered. "How much does she know sir?"
Shon snapped her medical tricorder shut. “Sorry Alec, try to breathe deeply and evenly Sir.” She advised the President as she gave him a hypo. “It’s a muscle relaxant Mr President.”
Hallmyre seemed to be a little better. “Everything Lieutenant Commander, my whole schedule, she arranged it, knew who I was to meet and when. Made flight arrangements and co ordinated my visits with the Romulan State Department. Even my bathroom breaks..” he put his head in his hands, “what am I going to do?”
Alec listened as the President spoke and revealed that Martha Turpin knew everything about his schedule. "The first thing you're going to do sir is calm down and relax. Let the doctor help you. The next thing is to change as much of your schedule as you can sir."
“Mr President I remember your schedule for tomorrow, you are going to take a shuttle with the Romulan brass to the evacuation points on the surface at 08.00.” Said Shon.
“I am going to have to get in touch with my office on Earth to find out.” Hallmyre moaned.
Shon frowned, “I’m not sure that would be a good idea Sir” she said. “What do you think Lieutenant Commander?”
"i would advise against sir. You don't know if someone is listening and you definitely don't want anyone to know something is wrong." Alec replied firmly.
“Well how are we are going to have to get his schedule from Ms Turpin Lieutenant Commander?” Shon asked smiling at him.
"Captain Kilbane can go and get it or Captain Kerr can bring it from Ms. Turpin." Alec replied returning her smile.
Hallmyre groaned. "I need to get the President somewhere he can lie down and I can have a closer look at him." she whispered, "this place is probably bugged, even when the Romulans need us they cannot help their nature. Help us Alec, where can we go?"
Alec thought on Shon's question. She was probably right this collection of rooms was probably bugged. After a moment, he replied. "We'll take him back to the Blackeagle. Set him up in one of the VIP suites and you can have your closer look and the privacy you require."
"Thank you Lieutenant Commander Hunter," President Hallmyre groaned.
Shon put her hand on Alec's and nodded her thanks, she was truly worried about Hallmyre. So, she thought she was going home.
Alec nodded at Shon. he glanced at the President and the man looked frail and weak. They needed to move him soon.
'We need to move him quickly then." Shon said.
“No, Captain Kilbane will not go and fetch it, and the President’s not going anywhere” Kilbane said, rising from his seat in the shadows. He’d watched everything and heard everything that had been said between Shon and Alec, and he was horrified at Shon dropping the CO in the shit with her lies to the Romulans.
“The President will stay where he is, you Commander Hunter will place the Doctor under arrest whilst I contact the Commodore” he said.
Looking at Shon he said, “You have nothing to do with the President now, not after what I just heard, I think you’re capable of any kind of deceit, in fact, I wouldn’t put it past it’s you who’s made the President appear sick so he has to be moved.”
"Nice to see you again," Shon said knowing that Kilbane would not believe anything she said.
"NO, NO, NO ,NO," President Hallmyre stood up. "I am the President and my doctor will stay with me, don't you dare countermands that order or you will find yourself scrubbing ..........aghhhhh" he put his hand on his heart and dropped to the floor. Shon rushed to him.
"The President's heart has stopped, get us to the Blackeagles sickbay now......NOW" Shon shouted.
“Step away from the President now!” Kilbane shouted at Shon, drawing his phaser, “You’re no longer his physician.”
Kilbane moved to Hallmyre’s side and placed a small vile of liquid to his lips and let it slowly drip into his mouth. A few seconds later, the President rallied and sat up, “Did it work Captain Kilbane?”
“Oh yes Sir, just as it was planned, it worked quite well” Kilbane replied. Hallmyre slowly stood up with Kilbane’s help then he looked at Shon, “There was always something odd about how you and Ms Turpin were suddenly assigned to my staff, and now I know about the depth of both your treachery.”
He looked at Alec, “Do as the Captain here says, place her under arrest.”
"You have got things very wrong Kilbane, I am not a traitor, whatever else I am . I have nothing to do with Ms Turpin." She turned to Alec, "You have to believe me!
Alec looked between Kilbane and the President to Shon. "Sir, are you sure about this? Ms. Turpin is a spy. I know it, she admitted it, but I don't believe that about the Doctor."
“The Doctor there just admitted to trying to set up Commodore Kerr” Hallmyre said to Alec, “Why would she do that except to get him out the way by being hunted by the Romulans. Nobody but a spy would so something so despicable as that, so, as the Captain just said, place her under arrest before I have you placed under arrest for refusal and dereliction of duty…now!”
"Hold on Kilbane, there is something very strange about all this, I've not yet worked it out but I will. Alec don't get into trouble just for me please." Shon held her hands out.
Alec looked pained. "Sirs, you are wrong. The Doctor was speaking as someone who knew the captain. It was frustration talking nothing more."
“You’re stood down Commander” Hallmyre said, and then he tapped a button on the console next to him, “Hallmyre to Presidential guard Commander, come to my office immediately.”
Within a minute, the door to the office opened and the guard Commander entered, “ You called for me Mr President.”
“Yes, I want you to place the Doctor here under arrest on charges of espionage” Hallmyre said.
The guard Commander, looked at Shon, then back to the President, “The Doctor Sir, but she’s nothing to do with it…”
“With what?” Kilbane asked.
“Ehm…I mean…nothing to do with…” he stumbled.
“You mean to do with the fact a faction of the Romulan High Council don’t want the rescue to go ahead?” Kilbane said.
“I didn’t say that Sir…” the guard Commander tried to wriggle out.
“Not in so many words, but you just showed your hand, you’re the other traitor, Commander Hunter, arrest that officer!” Kilbane said, pointing at the guard Commander.
Alec drew his phaser and addressed the guard commander. "Sir you are under arrest. I suggest you don't argue otherwise I'd have to shoot you. No, on second thought argue."
“This goes much deeper than any of you know.” Shon said.
“Don’t think you’re off the hook Doctor, you’re still in deep shit for betraying the Commodore” Kilbane told Shon, hatred in his eyes.
Shon looked at him, “you would be better putting those feelings to better use Kilbane. Shon walked over to the President. “Sir you still need medical assistance to combat your Schoergrens, let me help you, please?”
"That's Captain Kilbane to you Doctor T'ghann-Dex" Kilbane replied, "and no, those feelings will remain exactly as they are, in my eye's you're still betrayed the Commodore, and that's not forgivable."
Hallmyre looked at Shon, "I'm afraid the Captain is right, you are in some rather serious trouble Doctor, and as much as your intentions seem good towards my wellbeing, I don't want to be taken back to the Blackeagle, I don't want the ship involved in this. However, I will allow you to go to the ship, under the supervision of Commander Hunter, and get whatever you think is required from the medical bay there and return back here to treat me."
"Kilbane you will get my respect when you give me something to respect, now Mr President you need a plasma infusion of antibodies. I can get everything I need from the Blackeagle, I would prefer to treat you in a proper medical facility but I respect your wishes. Will someone take me there please, Alec?"
