Mission:
The 'Eagle continues.
Location: Ready Room, USS Blackeagle
Timeline: Current.
Now back onboard, Finchley had a meeting that really required to be done sooner rather than later. During the mission, he'd noted that something was amiss and it needed straightened out.
Tapping his COMM badge he said, "Kerr to Commander Savette, can you come to my Ready Room please."
Isabelle had returned to her office, she hadn’t been there long when Finchley’s summons came across the comms. “On my way Sir”
A few minutes later she stood outside the door, straightening her uniform she pressed the chime.
"Come" Finchley called from his seat at his desk.
Entering Isabelle stood in front of Finchley’s desk. “Reporting as ordered Sir”
"Ah, good, Commander Savette, please have a seat" he replied, offering the one beside her.
“Thank you Captain” Isabelle smiled politely as she took her seat. She had an idea what this was about. “Sir, before you begin, I’d like to request permission to step down as Executive Officer.”
"I was going to ask you about how you feel about your duties as Executive Officer, but what you've just said shows me that you're not up for the job" Finchley replied.
"I guess this is actually my own fault, I believed you were ready to step up as you'd shown you were a capable officer and shown promise in commanding certain situations" he went on, "however, I won't hide my disappointment that you've not carried that on. Therefore I accept your request to step down as I was going to suggest it anyway. What about your duties as Chief Counsellor, are you stepping down from them as well or are you carrying them on? Before you answer that question though, you do realise that by stepping down from Executive Officer, you also relinquish the rank of full Commander and will revert back to Lieutenant Commander...you were on a probationary rank."
“I understand that Sir” Isabelle nodded. “I don’t plan on leaving the ship, I want to carry on as Chief Counsellor. I’m not ruling out moving to command one day, but right now I’m just not ready to take that big a step.”
"That's fair enough, I think one day you will take another step up to Command level, I believe you have what it takes" Finchley replied, "and of course you can carry on a Chief Counsellor, I think the crew will be more than happy to see that."
“Thank you Sir” Isabelle smiled warmly. “I won’t let you down that I promise you.”
"I never doubted that for a moment Commander" Finchley replied. "I think we're done here, thank you for coming and thank you for expressing what you're thinking has been, it's appreciated. I shan't keep you back from your Counselling duties, you're dismissed."
He watched as Isabelle rose from her seat and left the Ready Room. It was an easier meeting than he thought it was going to ben and he was glad for her honesty. Now that those things were clear, it was time to move onto the next meeting, that with Lieutenant Commander Hunter.
