Mission: The 'Eagle continues.
Location: Romulus, Federation Presidential quarters
Timeline: Current.

Kilbane smiled at Shon's reply, she was really growing on him, strange though it was given how they'd started out on this mission. Perhaps some kind of...and he pushed the thought from his mind...for the moment anyway.

"Yes, you're right" he replied, non committal on which part he was answering from her reply. He stepped onto the transporter pad and touched the screen where the pre-set coordinates had been entered. Shortly afterwards, they were back in the Presidents offices and he rushed over to the medi pack he knew Shon had left for the President. He had basic field medical training, as all the crew did, so he was able to find a hypo to help Shon with her pain management and take it over to her. Setting it on a low dose, he put it to her neck and depressed the button. There was a short hiss, and he stood back.

"Hopefully that'll help short term with your pain management, once we're done here, I think I know a good doctor who can fix you up right" he said.

Shon immediately felt the pain subside and smiled thankfully at Kilbane and a sensation of something that might be between them shot through her. "Thank you for that," she said almost softly.

Finchley watched as Kilbane and Shon materialised in the office. Kilbane had run to fetch something and take it back to Shon and used it on her. Listening to what he said to her, he was surprised on how 'coy' it sounded. He was even more surprised at her reply. What the hell had happened between these two in the time they'd been away?

"We have the switch sir, I think we had better clear the atrium of everyone not included in this. Is he awake?" she asked indicating Hallmyre.

"Yes, the President's awake" Finchley replied to Shon, "feel free to question or put things to him."

Shon nodded and approached the President one hand pressing against the wound on her shoulder and the other holding the intricate box. "How are you feeling Mr President?" she asked unable to take the scorn out of her voice.

"A little woozy Doctor, I have just woken from a deep sleep. Have you seen any one pf the guards from my shuttle?" he asked.

Shon smiled and it was not a pleasant one. She held the box out, "Is this what you are looking for Sir." she said icily.

Hallmyre's demenour changed. He sat up his eyes became shrewdly scrunched up as he looked at her. "I have never seen that in my life Doctor."

"Look again Hallmyre" she said as she threw the box at him.........He screamed a long shrill scream as the box dropped in his lap. "Come now, we found it in your shuttle, your man told us where to find it just before his.....unfortunate accident." Shon looked at Kilbane and smiled. She took the box from him, withdrew the switch from her pocket and placed it back in the box.
"You had better tell us how to deactivate the bomb you had planted. We know all about your sordid little pact with the Apistos. The death of a whole civilisation of people, for what...money, riches..you make me sick." Shon gave a little cry and put her hand back on her wound.

Hallmyre nodded. Open the slide partition underneath the box." Shon handed it to Kilbane. "Please Captain."

Halmyre continued, "There are two lights, kill the green one, that deactivates the bomb." He sank back in his chair.

Taking the box, Kilbane opened the slide partition and switched the green light off as had been explained. The light went off and he threw the box to the floor, crushing it under the heel of his boot.

"Now Mr President, for your last job in the office of Federation President," Shon dusted off his robes, " you will meet with the Romulan Preator and fulfil the promise the Federation made to, "she pulled him up into a sitting position, "help these people."

Hallmyre nodded weakly. "Are you really a doctor?" he asked.

She nodded, "Yes I am and have been helping you with your Schoergrens. But I will also have a phaser at your back and one wrong move and you're gone...do you understand me?"

He swallowed and nodded.

"Right then. Captain Kilbane will you let them know the Federation President is ready for the Preator?" Shon put her Doctors jacket around her shoulders so no one could see her wound or the palm phaser directed at his back and sat down a fey yards behind him.

Kilbane liked this feisty new person Shon had become, as surprised as he was, it was a little bit of a turn on.

In the ante chamber Alec stopped pacing as the Preator and his party came into view. Alec moved to the group and stopped a few feet from them. "Preator, I am Lieutenant Commander Hunter. Thank you so much for coming. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you."

The Preator looked at Alec for a moment before replying formally. "Commander Hunter, I agreed to come here for this meeting with the President. and I intend to do that and not spend it in idle what do you call it? Chit-Chat?"

"Um, yes sir. However, the President is still not feeling well and it is taking longer to get him ready for this meeting than anticipated."

"Commander Hunter, do you wish these talks to fail? Because they will if I do not meet with the President." The Preator replied coldly. He waved his hand and his guards moved forward.

"Preator, I wish these talks to take place more than you realize. I just ask for your indulgence for a little longer."

"Commander, five more of your earth minutes and then If I do not see the President, these talks are through." The Preator answered icily.

Finchley walked from the Presidents personal offices out into the ante chamber. Seeing Alec talking to a rather disgruntled looking Praetor, he joined them and spoke, "Well Commander, how go things out here?"

Alec turned from the Preator to speak to Kerr. "Fine sir. The Preator was just telling me he is most anxious to speak with the President and that he is tired of waiting to do so."

The Preator spoke up, "I understand the President is unwell, however surely he is well enough to meet me so we may discuss the matters before us."

"The President's made a somewhat remarkable recovery Praetor, he'll be very glad to speak with you. Please, step this way" Finchley replied, leading the entourage into the Presidents offices.

Finchley stopped the Praetors guard by the door, "This is Federation turf boys, you're not going any further, the Praetor will be safe in our hands."

The head of the guard began to protest, but the Praetor cut him short and after a pretty short but heated exchange, the guards backed off but remained by the doors.

Stepping inside and closing the doors, Finchley lead the Preator to the President and asked him to sit, which he did.

"Mr President, as you're aware, this is the Romulan Praetor" Finchley began, "You both have much to discuss, but the main topic for just now is an agreement to get the ball rolling on the relief fleet getting here and the evacuation procedures started. I realise there's been a few hiccups and false starts, but everything is in place to go, all it needs is for the both of you to sign the agreement, shake hands...yes Praetor, I did say shake hands, and we're off and running. I'm going to leave you both to that, and once you're done, we'll be on our way and let Admiral Picard and his people take over."

Hallmyre and the Romulan Praetor looked at each other, almost like they were two scolded children spoken harshly to by their father for doing something wrong. In the end, Hallmyre shook his shoulders and began talking with the Praetor in a loud tone.

Finchley had had enough, he wandered over to where Alec, Kilbane and Shon stood. Looking back at the two bickering figures at the desk, he said "You know, they're not unlike each other, you just need a firm hand to show them who's boss...well, who's boss of the moment, not boss over all."

"Oh yes Sir, I firmly agree, having a firm hand works every time" Kilbane replied, and he winked at Shon.

Alec just there and looked at the President and the President has they spoke or perhaps argued was a better word, but they were talking and he sincerely hoped, an agreement could be reached and the Romulan people helped or rather saved.

Shon felt pale and looked paler. Every time she looked at Kilbane she saw something new. The way he stood, his eyes that crinkled his face when he smiled. Pull yourself together, very soon you'll be going your separate ways, she thought. She moved over to Finchley. "What are we going to do with our President? he cannot continue after this, he was willing to let billions die for his greed."

"Have no fear on that point Doctor" Finchley replied, let's just say that President Hallmyre will 'go down' in history...and leave it at that. Now, how about you get yourself to the Sickbay on the Blackeagle and get yourself patched up eh?"

"If that is okay with you Sir then yes, thank you. I think I need it."

"Are you ok to go on your own Doctor, or do you need anyone to accompany you?" Finchley asked her.

“Thank you Sir, May Lieutenant Commander Kilbane come with me?” She asked.

Finchley looked over at Kilbane, then back at Shon, "Well, if you're sure, I'm happy for him to go with you, why not ask him yourself" he smiled.

Shon went over to Kilbane and gently touched his arm, "Lieutenant Commander will you accompany me to sick bay, if you don't have anything else to do, no...I mean can you...oh crap. Please come with me?

Kilbane was somewhat taken aback but pleased, very pleased indeed, to be asked to accompany Shon, "It'll be my pleasure Doctor" he replied, offering for her to go. "What would you like me to help you with?"

"With my life, and the mistakes I have made." she said slowly, "I have found you to be........different. At least I owe you a new uniform."

"Well, who could resist such a request" Kilbane answered, "Shall we?"

Shon took his arm as they walked slowly over to the transporter. She almost felt like passing out and her unsteady gait became worse.

Kilbane put his arm across Shon's back and around her waist, baring her weight. "Come on Doctor, we're nearly on the pad, you can't pass out now, if you do, I may need to give you the kiss of life."

Shon smiled wanly as they stepped on the pad. "If you have to give me the kiss of life I think you could call me Shon." she said as they disappeared from the hall and stepped off the transporter pad on the Blackeagle. "Just get me to sickbay and your chaperone duties are over Lieutenant Commander." Shon said.

As they made their way to Sickbay, Kilbane held onto Shon so that she still had his support, "Listen, you may be the Doctor...Doctor, but you'll still need help when you're in there, so let me help, once you're done, we can get you settled in and I'll check back on you in a couple of hours to see how you are. Besides, I think the Commodore may want to have a chat with you when you're more yourself."

Finchley then walked over to Alec and said quietly, "Obviously we don't want Hallmyre to get away with what he's done, why don't you leave something here for the Romulans to 'find' that'll implement him in this Apistos situation, I'm sure they'll be more than grateful."

Alec nodded, "Yes sir, I can do that. I have just the thing." He said walking over to Hallmyre's computer and leaving the screen on and open to the file showing Hallmyre's role in the whole sordid affair. "I think that will suffice and I hope they are grateful sir."

"Oh, I'm sure they will be" Finchley replied, "Can you excuse me a moment, it looks like they've finished talking and I'd like a quick word with the Praetor."

Alec nodded, "Of course sir."

Finchley walked over to where Hallmyre and the Praetor were now standing. "I take it your all done here?" he asked Hallmyre.

"Yes, we've completed our meeting" Hallmyre replied.

"Praetor, there's been some last minute information regarding the situation, if you'll follow me, I can show you" Finchley said.

"I really should be reporting back to the High Council, but if it will only take a moment..." the Praetor replied.

"Oh, I think you'll find this worth looking at...and reporting back to the High Council" Finchley replied, leading the way to the Presidents computer. Pointing at the screen he added, "I believe this will be of definite interest to you Sir."

"Very well" the Praetor answered, leaning forward and beginning to read what was on the screen.

Finchley gestured to Alec to join him and leave, and as they walked past Hallmyre he looked at the President and said, "What goes around, comes around..."

"What do you mean?" Hallmyre asked.

"PRESIDENT HALLMYRE, WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS???" the Praetor roared, pointing at the computer screen he was standing at.

"Good luck, you're going to need it" Finchley grinned at Hallmyre, then turned and left.

Alec smiled as he fell into step with Finchley. "I believe he's going to need more than luck sir." He said chuckling.
