863 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Investigate the Chintoka Shipyard Buildup
Location: Recreation Deck

T'Lira had received an invitation from Lt. Savette the chief counselor for a sort of girls' night in. T'Lira was very social for a Vulcan and this would give her a chance to engage with her shipmates and become more familiar with them. As it was after hours, T'lira was in civilian clothes a white and black zebra-striped jumpsuit. It was both attractive and comfortable.

At 1800 she made her way down to the recreation deck and greeted Lt Savette.

"Isabelle, thank you for your invitation, it is most agreeable to get to know you better," T'Lira said.

“My pleasure T’Lira” Isabelle smiled warmly. “I thought it would be good for us to get to know one another better. I normally only see people when they visit my office, or we’re working so this is so much better!”

"In my experience, it is best to cultivate friendships. I for one am amenable to being your friend," T'Lira said.

"We have a long voyage ahead of us and it would be good to socialize with someone of equal rank and stature," T'Lira continued.

“Well I’m honoured that you chose me” Isabelle smiled warmly. “So what would you like to do? Shall we grab a drink, and sit and talk, get to know one another better?”

"Excellent suggestion, Let's go," T'lira said.

As they were walking to the lounge T’lira asked Isabelle what her interests were.

Isabelle smiled as she looked towards T’lira “Actually I gave pretty varied interests, I love listening to old earth music, watching tv & movies. I love to curl up on the sofa and have a movie night, sitting in the dark with popcorn and drinks!” She grinned. “Besides that I collect souvenirs from any new places I get to visit. I enjoy cooking as well, it’s something I learned from my her mother & grandmother. The only thing I love as much is hydroponics, I’m quite ‘green fingered’ as the saying goes!”

"Are you married or seeing someone," T'Lira asked?

“No, on both counts” Isabelle grinned. “I guess I haven’t found mr right just yet. How about you?”

"I was paired as a child however my betrothed died on a Starfleet mission during the Dominion war. He was an engineer aboard the Intrepid. The Intrepid was lost with all hands during the battle of Betazed. I knew he had died immediately as our psychic connection was severed. I was quite traumatized. It took almost a decade to fully recover. His name was Sopek," T'Lira replied.

“I’m so sorry T’Lira” Isabelle offered a gentle, comforting glance. “That must have been horrific. Betazoids bond too, it’s not something that’s really well known. I can only imagine how it must feel.”

"Vulcans are trained to suppress their emotions not deal with them," T'lira replied. We do have them, an alternate approach was called for when dealing with them. She added.

Isabelle nodded. “An alternate approach? Would you like to talk about that?”

"Let's see, to deal with my issues, I buried myself in my work, it took a long time but I was eventually able to deal with my personal issues. You have to understand this happened during the height of the Dominion war and I was a clandestine operative," T'Lira explained.

Isabelle nodded. “The war gave little to no time for anyone to take stock. I can understand you had to find ways to manage.”

"After the war, I decided to switch over to science and research. I figured there would be less death involved." T'Lira said.

“I can’t say I blame you” Isabelle offered an understanding nod. “Is it a career choice that you feel happy with? Do you have any regrets?”

"Happy is a Human emotion. I find the change satisfactory. I do not have any regrets." T'Lira replied.

Isabelle nodded. “Of course, that’s good then.”

"It was a satisfactory career move as I am much more satisfied," T'lira added.

Isabelle smiled. “It’s nice to meet someone who finds their career choice so satisfactory. A lot of crew-members enjoy what they do, but still wonder what they could be doing differently.

"I suppose I could be teaching or at a research station somewhere, but I prefer life on a starship. There are just too many new things to discover," T'Lira said.

“Spoken like a true scientist and adventurer” Isabelle smiled warmly. “I know how you feel, for me it’s the adventure of what could be out here.”

"What kind of adventure would be most satisfactory for you," T'Lira asked.

“To be honest, I’m not sure. What we do here always leads to something rewarding.” Isabelle smiled a wry smile.

"For me its the understanding of the universe," T'Lira said.

Isabelle nodded. “It is indeed, to understand what we don’t know, and learn what’s out here.” She sipped her drink.

It has been a pleasure having lunch with you and getting to know you better, I must return to my duties now," T'Lira said.
