Mission:
The 'Eagle continues.
Location: Starfleet HQ
Timeline: MD001 1300 hrs
"Why have they dragged you in here Bird?" Kilbane asked.
"In case you've not noticed, we've all been dragged in here" Finchley replied, pointing between himself, Kilbane and Karadis.
"True" Karadis added, "but the buck stops with you, so if it's all gone tits up, I'm more than happy for you to shoulder the blame."
"Thank you for your support Karadis, always good to know who you can rely on" Finchley answered sarcastically.
At that point they were interrupted by an adjutant, "The Admiral will see you now, come this way please."
Like three condemned criminals, heads down, they followed the adjutant along a corridor to a set of doors. Pressing the intercom, they said, "Captain Kerr and his..."
~Performing monkey's~ Karadis said under her breath.
"...crew are here Admiral."
The doors opened, allowing them to walk in. Finchley strode over the desk where Admiral Tonkin was sat, Kilbane and Karadis slid off to the side, becoming wall flowers.
"Admiral Tonkin, you wanted to see us Sir" Finchley opened with.
"BIRD!, Good to see you again" the Admiral replied, "You look like hell, you've lost weight but gained worry lines, how's life treating you?"
"It's ehm...good to see you again Admiral" Finchley replied.
~Bull...shit~ Kilbane coughed into his hand, pretending he was a little dry in the throat.
Finchley closed and opened his eyes again, ignoring Kilbane's childishness.
"How can we be of service to you Sir?" Finchley asked.
"I have a new job for you, all of you..." Tonkin said, looking round Finchley to Kilbane and Karadis, both of who grinned and gave him the thumbs up.
"Things are getting a little intense out there" Tonkin carried on, waving his hand at a window in the office, "So we want you to take up the role of Fleet Covert Operations Officer..."
"You're pulling us out of Operation Wild card?" Finchley asked.
"Yes we are" Tonkin replied, "the operation's nearly complete, you've all carried out your orders, it's just the finer details that require dealing with, and that can be done by the pick up crew we sent in."
Finchley looked round at Kilbane and Karadis, then back to the Admiral, "Those 'finer details' are still about installing a new Government, that's no mean feat."
"And the pick up crew will do that Bird, you don't need to concern yourself with that anymore" Tonkin said. He stood up and walked around his desk, laying a heavy hand on Finchley's shoulder and squeezing it.
"You'll love this new assignment, and you'll be going home" the Admiral added.
Finchley gave him a quizzical look, they were already on Earth, so the line made no sense to him.
Seeing the look Finchley gave him, Admiral Tonkin laughed and said, "We're sending you back to the Blackeagle..." and again he looked at Kilbane and Karadis, "...all of you."
Again, Kilbane and Karadis gave childlike grins and more thumbs up signs.
"That's greeeeeeaaaaatttt..." Finchley replied, his voice tailing off, trying to look excited and failing miserably.
"I knew you'd like it" Tonkin replied, "Your transport's ready."
"You mean we're going right now?" Finchley asked incredulously.
"See, that's what I like about you Bird, you catch on quickly" Tonkin replied, and walking back round his desk and sitting down again he added, "Don't let the doors hit your arse on the way out, dismissed."
Finchley could only gawp open mouthed at the Admiral, he tried to speak but his mouth just opened and closed without sound passing his lips. Finally, he turned and started walking bewildardly back towards the doors, as he passed Kilbane and Kardis, he pointed a finget at them both and mouthed, 'Not a fucking word!'
Once outside in the corridor again, he slumped against the wall and said, "Well, this isn't going to be easy."
"Oh, on the contrary Mon petit canard" Kilbane answered him, "this is going to be hilarious, well, to myself and Karadis anyway!"
"I hope your next shite's a hedgehog" Finchley replied, pushing himself off the wall and traipsing down the corridor, "and all the spines get stuck..."
So it was off to pastures already walked, and a sense of De Ja vue washed over Finchley, hopefully the memories of the war would keep at bay, but he had a feeling they wouldn't.
