Mission: The 'Eagle continues.
Location: USS Blackeagle transporter room.
Timeline: Current.

Romulus was fast approaching, and Finchley stood in transporter room one along with Karadis and Kilbane. He'd already called for the rest of the away team to meet him there, all he could do was await their arrival.

"Do you really think the President believes his presence on Romulus will make any kind of difference to the situation?" Kilbane asked.

"Well, if I'm genuinely honest, I think he does" Finchley replied.

"But it's not like he's going to physically 'help' anyone though is he?" Karadis added rhetorically.

"No, but I think that he thinks that by bringing the two warring factions together, he can prevent what could ultimately become a Romulan civil war...even in dire times as these" Finchley said.

"He's a politician, not a strategist" Kilbane said, "Surely he can't think there's time to get round the table and talk this thing out?"

"Well, there's some conjecture as to the exact amount of time the planet has before it goes...you know...kaboom" Finchley replied, "That's our window of opportunity to get in there and find out what's going on. Once the rest arrive we can get on with that plan."

Alec was the next into the transporter room. Looking quickly around, he said, Hello Captain, Commanders, glad to see I'm not the last one here."

"Glad to see you to Commander, and you're prompt actually, first to arrive" Kilbane replied.

The doors opened to reveal Isabelle. “Apologies for my tardiness Captain, I wanted to make sure everything was good before I left the bridge.” She offered a polite smile.

"Very good Commander" Finchley answered, impressed that Isabelle was learning to ropes of being First Officer, "We're just waiting on the rest arriving before we carry on."!

"Thank you, sir." Alec replied to Kilbane's statement and then smiled at Isabelle as she came into the room and adding "Commander Savette." He said politely.

Drevas was next through the door, a second after Isabelle. "Captain. Commanders." He greeted the rest as he joined them. "I apologise for being late. I've just finished briefing the rest of my team."

"That's alright Lieutenant" Finchley said, "We're now almost all here."

Karadis sidled up to Drevas and whispering out the side of her mouth she said, "You're better at debriefing..."

Sandy heard the call and hastily left the flight deck just slowing down to grab her go bag and flight materials.

Yadira heard the order and silently cursed. Grabbing her go bag and picked up the PaDD's and flew to the lift. She felt another presence and reached out.

Sandy felt the mental touch but ignored it. She wasn't but half a dozen steps off the lift and plows right into Yadira. Both looked at each other in shock. "No ... can't be is that...I don't believe it, Yadira is it really you?" Sandy asked as both women slowly got up. Yadira was just as much surprised as Yadira hugged Sandy. "Come on we are holding the whole shebang up," she said grabbing Sandy and both to off the transporter.

"Lt. Cmdr's Sandy and Yadira reporting", as she tried her best not to laugh as Sandy mentally touched Yadira's mind.

"Captain, Commander" Finchley nodded to Yadira and Sandy, "Ok, that's everyone here, let's get this show on the road."

The doors to the transporter room opened and closed again, "No' sae fast" McCrudden said as he took his place at the transporter console.

"What now Jock?" Kilbane asked.

"Seems like the President's goin' tae be tourin' aboot yer Grace" McCrudden replied, "an' that means we mae no' be able to fully track ye."

"How did you find out about this?" Kilbane asked, "and less with the 'your Grace', you know I don't like my title being used."

"You huv yer ain ways o' dain things, ah huv mine yer Grace" McCrudden replied, ignoring Kilbane's statement on using his title.

"Is there a solution Jock?" Finchley asked.

"Aye, but it's only temporary Sir" Jock answered.

"And it is....?" Finchley asked, wanting to get to the end game.

"A soluble micro transmitter Captain" Jock said.

"Fine, whatever you have to do, just do it" Finchley replied.

Jock nodded and began handing out little pouches of water, "Get it doon ye, the transmitters'll last twelve hours efter that, yer on yer ain."

"Fine, fine, let's just get on with this" Finchley said. He turned to face the assembled away team, "Right, here's the plan. We know that the Romulan High Command is not fully onboard with the Federation rescue task fleet coming, General A'axxa has a breakaway faction trying to block the rescue. He can't have set up this breakaway on his own, he has to have been helped, so we need to know who by. There's rumours it's the Orion Syndicate, but we have no solid evidence of that. Now, A'axxa will be with the rest of the High Command when the President arrives, so we'll be splitting into two teams for this away mission. Team one will consist of Captain Tristan, Commander Shannon, Lieutenant Commander Karadis and Lieutenant Drevas, you're job is to break into the Generals offices and find any evidence linking him and his breakaway faction to the Syndicate. If you find any, look to see who else on A'axxa's staff is involved.
Team two will consist of myself, Commander Savette, Commander Hunter and Commander Kilbane. We'll look into the Presidents staffing whilst he's here, see who they meet and find out if there's any kind of credible threat to the President whilst he's on Romulus...there has to be a reason why he's been invited other than just to say 'thank you'. Ok, any questions?"

Looking at the Captain, "If we do find evidence that would indicate a tie in to the Syndicate, how do we get it to you?", Yadira asked. It was a valid question and an answer was needed so they knew how to plan their next move.

"We'll have our COMM badges with us, but my advice is not to use open communications, an acrostic code word sent via morse code static, so something like 'First out under nobody's description'...makes the word 'FOUND', first letter of each word, that means you have evidence" Finchley replied.

Isabelle nodded as she listened to the plan. With this being her first mission as First Officer she was glad to be accompanying Finchley as part of his team.

Alec simply nodded as the captain outlined his plan. The change in the President's schedule was a concern but a minor one and could be easily handled.

"Understood." Drevas replied, glancing over at Shr'nesh once.

"That's us in orbit aroond Romulus now Captain" McCrudden informed Finchley.

"Understood Captain. Ok team one let's get ready," Yadira said to her team.

Finchley walked over to Yadira and said, “I realise things are slightly strained between us, what with the revelation you told me about the Syndicate, but be careful, if you have any doubts about anything, feel you’re in over your head…rely on Karadis to get you through it, understand?”

Resisting the urge to kiss him, "Of course imzadi," Yadira said quietly.

"Good" Finchley replied, "Now, let's get your team onto the ground."

Karadis walked towards the transporter pad, looking at Drevas as she went, “What was the glance for?” she asked.

"Because I trust that you'll have my back, of course." Drevas replied coolly. The look that he shot her all but screamed you know damn why I looked at you - as if whispering suggestive nothings while on mission wasn't out of place enough.

"Someone's a bit grouchy today" Karadis replied, stopping as she reached the steps of the transporter, waiting on team one beaming out, "I hope you're not going to be such a big baby when we're down on the planet."

"Of course not." Drevas smiled thinly as they were standing by the transporter, ready to beam down to the planet.

Watching as the first away team stepped onto the transporter pads, Finchley then turned to look at his own away team.

"Ok, listen up everyone" he began, "When we down there, I'll be talking with the Presidents Security team, find out what I can about the itinerary they have. I want all of you to talk to your counterparts as well, get a feel for them, try and gauge the mood of the Presidents team, do they have concerns, have there been any threats, have the Romulans been onboard with what's about to happen with them...that sort of thing.
We're bound to get some push back from them, after all, they view us 'spooks' with disdain, but we can't let that interfere with our mission. If any of you feel you have someone pushing back in particular, let me know and I'll have a word with them myself...privately, if you know what I mean. Ok, any questions before we transport down?"

As there were none, he nodded his head, “Good, then let’s get prepared.”
