Sorting Out the Information

938 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: The 'Eagle continues.
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Current

Alec was on his way to Captain Kerr's Ready Room. He had collected information on Federation President Hallmyre or rather former president considering the information he had. Which brought a smirk to his lips. He also had information on the Orion Syndicate and their operations or around Romulus. Which he had no doubt the captain was going to find very interesting.

Holding the PaDD in one hand, Alec straightened his tunic and pressed the door chime to allow him entrance into the inner sanctum of the Blackeagle's commanding officer.

Inside, Finchley had been deep in thought, his mind was wandering over the last mission and how it was effecting him currently. The door chime cut into those thoughts, bringing them to an end.

"Come" he said.

Hearing the captain's voice beckoning him to enter, Alec stepped into the ready room and approached the desk, and the man seated behind it. "I have the information you asked for sir. I think you will be pleased with the information concerning former President Hallmyre. He was removed from office and is currently awaiting a trial."

"Trial...yes, that's the thing Alec, I know Hallmyre, he's a slippery sod at the best and worst of times" Finchley replied, "I need you to find out who's defending him in his trial please."

"Yes sir." Alec replied, "That shouldn't be too hard to find out. May I ask sir, why you want that particular information?"

"Because I want Hallmyre's trial to be done by the book, not crooked, I don't want that bastard wriggling free on some technicality dreamt up by a bent brief" Finchley replied. "He's gotten out of situations before using bent briefs, ones he has in his pocket through one way or another. So if I know who it is, I can have them checked out 'before' the trial begins."

Alec nodded. "Yes sir. I see and I can understand why you want this done right and not have the guilty party wiggle out of due justice on some legal technicality. Not to worry sir, I'll have the information you want."

"Good, thank you Commander" Finchley replied, "and what of the Orion Syndicate on Romulus, do we have any information on what's happening with them?"

"Yes sir. Seems they still have a presence on Romulus not as large after this last incident but still there as they are continuing to try and curry favour and gain political allies to help in their slave trade."

"We can't have that" Finchley replied, "we must ensure that their presence on Romulus is stopped in it's tracks. Who do we know on the SFI Council that could serve as a spy master, reporting any dealings with the Orion Syndicate and the Romulan High Council?"

"No sir, we can't. As for who we knew on the SFI Council, I'm not sure right off hand. I'll need to check and get back to you sir. Give me a few hours and I'll have both who Hallmyre's lawyer is and who we can use on the SFI Council." Alec replied.

"Thank you Commander" Finchley replied, "there is something else I want to tell you. I'm going to appoint Dr T'ghann-Dex as Blackeagle's Second Officer."

"Yes sir, you are welcome." Alec replied and then paused as he considered what Finchley had said and after a moment replied. "Dr. Dex is certainly a qualified physician and there is more to her than meets the eye." He paused again, "I know she has had dealings with SFI, so she has both mental toughness to handle the position as well as physical toughness when the situation demands it."

"Just a heads up, and I mean this in all lightness Commander, she'll remind you it's Dr T'ghann-Dex, and not just Dr Dex" Finchley laughed, "I made that mistake when she first arrived back and I was 'reminded' of how to properly address her. Anyway, you're correct, she does have the qualities you described, but there's something else, she has a...desire to prove herself as part of the crew. Some of them, and I'm not naming names, didn't take to kindly to how she left before and haven't forgiven her for it. I believe becoming Second Officer will give her the opportunity to do what she believes she needs to do."

"Yes sir. I meant no disrespect. Though she did tell me to call her Dex. I hope whichever crew members haven't forgiven her can see what fine person, excellent doctor and good officer she is."

"Some don't see it that way unfortunately Commander" Finchley replied, "but the good Doctor will just have to cope the best she can and hopefully win them over. It does mean you'll be working with her more closely as you'll make up the Senior Command team. I still expect that there will be some difficulties in adapting to this, but I've made my decision and I need you both to make sure it works well."

"Of course, sir, I will do everything I can to ensure a smooth and professional working relationship with the doctor as well as minimize whatever difficulties she may encounter in her new role."

"Good" Finchley replied, "Well then, I see no reason for keeping you from your tasks then Commander, please let me know when you have any information."

Alec nodded, "Yes sir. I'll get the information you requested and bring it to you to view. So, you can the decide on the proper course action you wish us to take." He finished as he turned and exited the room. He had duties to attend to and information to gather.
