Mission: Voices of the past
Location: Stellar cartography lab
Timeline: Current.

Exiting the turbolift, Kilbane walked in silence along the corridor as both he and Karadis headed towards stellar cartography. Even in the 'lift, Kilbane had been silent and Karadis hadn't wanted to say anything till they were both alone on the lab. Once there, they both stepped inside and the doors closed behind them.

"Right, out with it, what actually happened between the three of you?" Karadis asked.

Kilbane turned to face her, "I think you already know, you're not stupid."

"I want to hear it from you" Karadis replied.

Kilbane fought back the turmoil and rage that still seethed within him, "I believed I'd found a way to track what may have happened to the USS Ranger. I'd come here to see if I could be right, and found that I could be so went to pass the information to...him. The Ready Room doors were closed, but I have an override code so used it because I was so excited to share my news. When I walked in and started to speak...the two of them were in an embrace, kissing each other. The bottom fell out of my world at that point, all I could think of was why Sho...Commander T'ghann-Dex...was kissing Kerr. I thought we'd been so happy together, were getting along so well, had told each other we loved each other, I thought this was 'it', I'd finally found my one true love and that she felt the same about me. How wrong could I be, HOW FUCKING WRONG!!!."

"Ok, ok, let's try and take it down a notch" Karadis replied, "Now, take a deep breath and think about this as logically as we can. Dex had been with Kerr before, I really think they were deeply in love, but when she left, and under the cloud that she left, like you most likely, I never thought they would rekindle their relationship, it had all turned to shit. But, it would seem that even though they'd fallen out before she left, there were still deep routed feelings for each other. I dare say when Dex came back onboard, she couldn't see them getting back together or having a deep relationship such as the one they had before, so she didn't pursue it. I doubt Kerr did either, we both know he's not that irrational, so does he. Dex then looked for love and understanding with you, but I think subconsciously, she saw you as 'the next best thing' to the Commodore."

"Are you trying to cheer me up Karadis?" Kilbane asked, "or trying to explain why I've been betrayed by the woman I fell in love with and the one person in service I thought actually had my back?"

"Hey, what's this I'm doing if it's not having your back?" Karadis yelled.

"Sorry, I didn't mean that last part" Kilbane answered, realising what he'd said."

"Well, not to put to fine a point on it, yes, they both betrayed you, but I still think she has feelings for you and I still think he has your back...even if you can't see these things right now" Karadis said.

"Oh, I highly doubt that, and besides, as far as I'm concerned, they're both dead to me" Kilbane replied, "Oh, I'll do my duty, I'll follow orders, but rest assured, I will fucking well have my revenge if it's the last thing I ever do!"

Karadis slapped him across the face, "Stop being such a child you moron, concentrate. You need to get your anger out, then all of this will fall into perspective."

Kilbane was a little stunned at the slap, but he didn't react to it, instead, he nodded his head and focused on why he'd chosen to come to the lab.

"I think I know how to trace the Ranger Karadis, but it'll be difficult to do and not one hundred percent accurate" he said.

"Show me" Karadis replied, glad he was now showing signs of being his old self again.

Kilbane walked across to the console nearest him and said, "I ran this simulation a few hours ago, and as you can see, there's a better than average chance we can still pick up their trail, even after three hundred years."

Karadis watched the simulation, it was good, it was very good and she knew instinctively that Kerr needed to know about it.

"Right, let's get this to the Commodore, he needs to see it" she said, "and no arguing or snippy comments, just deliver the information and let him decide on what to do with it."

"I'll be a gentle as a lamb, scouts honour" Kilbane replied, holding up one hand with the international scout three finger salute. Karadis had no idea what he was talking about, but it seemed genuine enough.

"Mhhhmmmm" she said, and turned to leave the lab.
